How to Reach Lama Top
To reach Lama Top, we started from Harsil Market, where a road leads to Bagori Village. On this route, we crossed the historic Wilson Cottage, one of the landmarks in the area.
Just after the cottage, there’s a small bridge over the Jalandhari River. Before the bridge begins, a paved forest path starts to the left.
This same path also leads to the Kyarkoti Trek – but for Lama Top, the route diverts within the first 50 meters.
The trail begins with a gradual ascent through tall, dense deodar forests.
As you walk, you feel the cold wind pass through the trees — refreshing in summer, challenging in winter.
The climb is approximately 1.5 to 2 kilometers in total.
After about 500 meters, you start to see the first panoramic view — a bird’s eye look over part of the valley. The path becomes steeper and uneven as you continue.
But just before the final approach, a glimpse of the snow-covered Harsil Horn appears an unforgettable sight that instantly lifts all tiredness. This moment signals that you’re almost at the top.
At the summit, colorful Buddhist prayer flags flutter in the wind, adding life and spirit to the silence. From Lama Top, the entire Harsil Valley opens up below, one can see the complete bird’s eye view of the valley.
The town of Harsil lies just below the cliff, and the Deodar forest stretches endlessly around. The cool air, open sky, and vast Himalayan landscape create an overwhelming experience.

You get a clear view of the Bhagirathi river flowing below and mesmerising view of Harsil Horn and other distant snow-covered peaks.

Best Time to Visit Lama Top
The best time to visit Lama Top is between April and November. In these months, the weather is clear, and the trail remains open.
During winter (December to March), Lama Top may be covered in snow. Although the snow trek is possible, it requires proper shoes and warm clothing.
Tips for Trekkers
- Carry your own water and snacks, there are no shops on the trail.
- Wear good trekking shoes for grip on forest paths.
- Carry a light jacket or windcheater, as it gets windy at the top.
- Start early in the morning for better views and sunlight.
- Be respectful of nature and do not litter.
