Uttarakhand’s Trek of the Year 2025–26: Gulabi Kantha Through the Eyes of Our Trekkers

There are some journeys that stay with you long after you return home.

Our recent Gulabi Kantha Trek was one such journey – where first-time trekkers found confidence, seasoned hikers found calm, and strangers turned into companions.

It was not just about walking through the mountains, but about sharing warmth in the cold, encouragement on steep climbs, and quiet joy at the end of long days.

This diary is not about routes or altitudes.
It is about people, warmth, shared smiles, and the quiet magic of the mountains – told through the voices of our trekkers.

Gulabi Kantha is an all-season trek in Uttarakhand, offering open meadows and clear views of the Bandarpunch peak and surrounding Himalayan ranges. Despite being located close to Yamunotri Temple and the well-known Dodital Lake, the trail remains relatively unexplored, making it quieter and less crowded.

The trek is easy to moderate in difficulty and covers a total distance of 26 kilometres over three days. It is one of the few Himalayan treks that can be done in summer, monsoon, and winter, with each season offering a distinct experience.

In recognition of its accessibility and natural appeal, the Uttarakhand Government awarded Gulabi Kantha the title of Trek of the Year 2025-26, along with two other treks.

A Well-Managed Experience From Start to Finish

For Deepali Sahani, the Gulabi Kantha Trek stood out as one of her finest trekking experiences.

She felt that everything – from planning to execution – was handled with professionalism, care, and genuine warmth. From the very beginning, the Montaxe team ensured that trekkers felt comfortable and well-guided throughout the journey.

She appreciated the clear communication, strong safety standards, and an itinerary that balanced adventure with enjoyment. Scenic campsites, homely food, and a positive group environment added to her experience, which she felt was shaped by thoughtful management.

Support and Hospitality on the Trail

For Himalaya Singh Dhami, the Gulabi Kantha Trek was defined by steady support and warm hospitality.

He found the trek leaders consistently supportive throughout the journey. The food left a strong impression, especially considering the cold conditions in which the kitchen team continued to serve warm and comforting meals.

He also noted that accommodation arrangements were well managed, contributing to a smooth and comfortable trekking experience. For him, the journey reflected careful planning and genuine care from the team.

A First Trek That Built Confidence

For Divya Raj, Gulabi Kantha was her first trekking experience.

She shared that choosing Montaxe made the journey feel manageable and reassuring. The team’s encouragement, especially during challenging sections, helped her stay motivated throughout the trek.

She expressed gratitude to the trek leaders and support staff for helping her reach the summit and keeping the experience comfortable from start to finish. What began as a first trek became a positive introduction to the mountains.

A Journey That Left a Lasting Impression

For Rishi Raj, the Gulabi Kantha Trek became one of the most memorable adventures of his life.

He felt that the entire experience – from the initial briefing to the final descent – was well organised and professionally handled. He appreciated the clean and comfortable tents, hot meals, proper acclimatisation, and a well-planned itinerary.

The team’s attention to safety and comfort allowed him to enjoy the meadows, panoramic Himalayan views, and peaceful trails without unnecessary strain. Their consistent support turned the trek into a meaningful memory.

A closing note:

The Gulabi Kantha Trek was defined not by extremes, but by consistency – in planning, support, and care throughout the journey.

These experiences reflect what the trek meant to those who walked the trail with Montaxe. This traveller’s diary preserves those moments as they were lived – simple, steady, and meaningful.
